The Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception has been
a platform to help players of different caliber to make a name for them and get
recognised. The IPL, with passage of time, has unearthed both national and
international players, who have gone ahead to perform brilliantly for their
respective national teams. This year will be no different as players are raring
to go and produce valuable performances to make a case for themselves.

As the tournament commences, here is a list of five
debutants, who can make it big in the cash-rich league:

Sheldon Cottrell
(Kings XI Punjab)

Sheldon Cottrell is one of the most promising fast bowlers
that the West Indies has produced in recent years. His pace with the ball and
ability to mix things up in the middle has not only provided some memorable
encounters with Virat Kohli but also makes him a worthy buy. Kings XI Punjab
spent an insane 8.5 crore in the IPL 2020 auction to acquire the services of
the West Indian bowler.

Cottrell has been impressive since he debuted for his
national team in 2013 against India at Kolkata.

Cottrell has played 89 T20s and has taken 125 wickets. With
an economy of 7.38, he has two four-wicket hauls in his name. His best bowling
figure is 4/20.

Handy with the bat as well down the order, the 30-year-old
will be ready to lead the Punjab’s bowling attack alongside Mohammed Shami.

Tom Banton (Kolkata
Knight Riders)

Tom Banton’s performance in the Big Bash League precedes him
and he will be ready to prove his mettle in the IPL 2020. Bought by the Kolkata
Knight Riders for one crore in the auction, Banton’s hard-hitting ability in
the top order might just fill the gap left by Australian Chris Lynn in the top
of the order.

Under the guidance of Brendon McCullum, appointed coach of
the KKR, Banton may learn the tricks of the trade and prove fatal for the
opposition, giving his team a solid chance of lifting the IPL trophy.

In the total of 34 T20s that the 21-year-old has played, he
boasts a staggering strike rate of 157.33.

Kartik Tyagi (Rajasthan
Royals)

For the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Rajasthan Royals have
acquired the services of Kartik Tyagi for an amount of 1.3 crores. Tyagi
represents Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit and has played in the Ranji
Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. One of the leading pace-attackers for India in
the U-19 World Cup, Tyagi has the ability to swing the ball both ways. Tyagi
could really well fit in the Rajasthan Royals outfit alongside Jofra Archer.

With an ability to touch 140kph, he could prove to be a
handy asset for the Rajasthan-based franchise.

The 19-year-old Indian cricketer has played nine List A
cricket and a lone First-class match where he has taken nine and three wickets
respectively. He mightily impressed the crowd in the World Cup quarterfinal
against Australia where he dismantled the Australian top-order with a
four-wicket haul.

Alex Carey (Delhi
Capitals)

Alex Carey could prove to be perfect fit in the Delhi
Capitals’ predominantly Indian batting line-up along West Indian Shimron
Hetmyer. Snatched up by the Delhi-based franchise of an amount of 2.4 crores in
the auction, Carey is all set to perform under Coach Ricky Ponting in the
tournament.

The 28-year-old batsman impressed with his batting in the
2019 World Cup and has been pivotal in the Australian playing XI.

Carey’s experience represents good value for Delhi Capitals
as they aim to make it through to the playoff once again this season.

The left-handed Australian has played 28 T20Is and has 173
runs under his belt. With his highest score being 37 not out, Carey has a
strike rate of 124.46.

Josh Philippe (Royal
Challengers Bangalore)

After giving blistering performances in the Big Bash League,
Josh Philippe has now turned his attention towards the Indian Premier League
(IPL). The Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired the services of the Australian
at the base price of 20 lakhs. Although the signing went unnoticed, this
investment by the RCB might just give them higher returns in terms of batting
performance in the tournament.

The Australian wicketkeeper-batsman has played 32 T20 and
scored 798 runs with an average of 33.25. He has a strike rate of 138.30 with
his highest score being 86 not out.
