Lucknow, May 16 (PTI) AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said Muslims are not ready to lose another mosque after the Babri Masjid, on a day it was claimed in a Varanasi court that a Shivling was found in the Gyanvapi complex during a survey. Reacting to the development, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya tweeted, No matter how much you hide the truth, it will come out one day. Satya hi Shiv hai (Truth is Shiva), he said. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) claimed that the finding has proved that earlier a temple stood on the spot. Earlier in the day, a Varanasi court directed the district administration to seal a pond in the Gyanvapi Masjid complex after counsels representing the Hindu petitioners said a Shivling was found during a court-mandated videography survey. Referring to the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya three decades ago and a 1949 incident when idols of Hindu deities surfaced there, Owaisi asked Muslims to take a pledge that they won't allow its repeat in Varanasi. In a video posted on his twitter handle, Owaisi said Muslims are not ready to lose another mosque after the Babri Masjid. When I was 19-20 years old, the Babri Masjid was snatched from us, and inshallah, we will not allow this to happen with children of the age group, he said. He urged community members to take a pledge that they won't allow the loss of another mosque. We know your tactics and we will not allow you to sting again, he said apparently referring to right-wing Hindu outfits. The mosque exists and it will exist inshallah till the judgment day. The Gyanvapi mosque existed and till the time Allah keeps the world intact, the mosque will remain, he said. Owaisi said Muslims should make efforts that mosques keep flourishing. Ramzan is over and the walls of mosques are longing for people, who had offered namaz at the home of the God for 30 days. The mosques in villages and localities should be kept alive as evil forces want to deprive us of our culture. They should get the message that the Muslims are not ready to lose a mosque in India again, Owaisi said. In a tweet, the AIMIM chief also said the incident is a textbook repeat of December 1949 in Babri Masjid, apparently referring to the appearance of idols in the mosque then. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) expressed happiness over the claimed discovery and said it proved that earlier a temple existed there. This Shivling was found in the presence of lawyers from both sides. Therefore, the place where the Shivling has been found is a temple. It has been proved, VHP's working president Alok Kumar said in Prayagraj on Monday. I hope this evidence will be respected by people of the whole country, he said, hoping that this matter would reach its logical conclusion. Kumar said, Since the matter is in the court, it would not be appropriate to comment further. After the court's verdict, we will think about it further and then the VHP will be able to decide what further steps need to be taken.

Varanasi, May 16 (PTI) A local court here directed the district administration to seal a spot in the Gyanvapi Masjid complex after counsels representing the Hindu petitioners said a Shivling was found Monday during a court-mandated videography survey. A mosque management committee spokesperson disputed the claim, telling a television channel that the object was part of a “fountain”. He said lawyers representing the mosque committee were not fully heard before the sealing order was announced. The Hindu side claimed that the “Shivling” was found close to the “wazookhana” -- a small reservoir used by Muslim devotees to perform ritual ablutions before offering the namaz. The claimed finding on the last day of the survey reignited the mandir-masjid debate over the Gyanvapi mosque-Shringar Gauri complex located close to the iconic Kashi Vishwanath temple. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya expressed satisfaction over the development while AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said Muslims are not prepared to lose “another mosque” after the Babri Masjid. Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar issued directions on sealing an area of the mosque on an appeal by the lawyers representing the Hindu petitioners. Along with the counsels representing the mosque management committee, they had accompanied the team conducting the survey, headed by a court-appointed advocate commissioner. The judge directed the district magistrate, police commissioner and CRPF commandant in Varanasi to ensure the security of the sealed area. The local court is hearing a plea by a group of women seeking permission for daily prayers before the idols on the mosque's outer walls. The survey was ordered during this hearing and was initially stalled by the mosque management, alleging that the commissioner assigned to the task was biased. Monday’s survey of the mosque complex started at 8 am and ended around 10.15 am. “All parties were satisfied with the work, Varanasi District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma told reporters. He said the next order of the court will be known only on Tuesday, the deadline set by it for the advocate commissioner to submit the survey report. Till then nobody should disclose what has been found inside the court complex, the DM said. However, if anyone is disclosing it on his own, then its authenticity cannot be proved. Only the court is the custodian of this information,” he said. Earlier, while reporting the “finding” to the media, Madan Mohan Yadav, who represents the Hindu side, said he and senior advocate Harishankar Jain had submitted an application in the district court to secure the Shivling.

Earlier on Thursaday, Akhilesh has targeted the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over alleged rise in cases of atrocities against women and claimed that the National Commission for Women had served the maximum notices to it. He was talking to reporters in Jhansi, a day after meeting the mother of a 13-year-old gang-rape survivor in Lalitpur district. When asked about the SP chief's allegation, Maurya said Akhilesh is doing cheap politics over the incident. The Samajwadi Party chief is frustrated and dejected due to loss in the recent state assembly election and lodging baseless allegations against the BJP government. However, the local body 'Uttar Pradesh Muslim Mahapanchayat' has opposed the demand. Reacting on the former minister's demand, Maurya said that whenever such changes are made, people will be informed. However, Nadeem Noor of the the Muslim Mahapanchayat, opposed the name change, claiming that Jama Masjid is a heritage building and center of attraction among the tourists. Of the eight killed, four were farmers, who were allegedly knocked down by vehicles driven by BJP workers travelling to welcome Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to an event in the Tikunia area.The other four were two BJP workers, a driver and a journalist.Tikait along with the other leaders, all part of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), also met the family members of the four farmers who are in jail in connection with the killing of the two BJP workers and the driver.They called on District Magistrate Mahendra Bahadur Singh and Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Suman, and apprised them about their demands.Talking to reporters after their meeting with the district authorities, Tikait said that the SKM delegation apprised the administration about the unfulfilled commitments that included compensation to the injured and service to an eligible member of the aggrieved families.The BKU leader was referring to the agreement between farmers and the administration on October 4 last year.Tikait said the officials have assured them of speedy disposal of the demands.On allegations of the family members of the four jailed farmers that SKM leaders have ignored them, Tikait said their anguish is genuine. New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) National Commission for Minorities (NCM) chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura on Wednesday refused to comment on some BJP-ruled states proposing to implement the Uniform Civil Code, saying without going through the draft legislation he would not like to make a remark.On repeated queries at a press conference, he said the commission will go through the draft of the common code, when it comes before it, to see if there is any deficiency in it which interferes with somebody's right to religion and follow religious practices.The draft (of the Uniform Civil Code) has not come to me. We will see the draft and discuss it. We have people (members) from all minority communities here (in the NCM). We cannot comment on this without knowing the draft (legislation), Lalpura said.Whatever is there in the draft that has to be seen in order to find out if there is any deficiency in it. The draft (law) has to be seen in the light of all existing codes to understand if they (state governments) are making them (existing codes) better or they are taking away something personal from the communities, he said.Lalpura said that you have to see in totality, are they interfering in the religious activities of a religion or somebody's freedom of religion.Discussions over the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is gaining pace in the country after the Uttarakhand government under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approved the constitution of a committee to implement the proposed code in the state soon after the BJP returned to power winning assembly polls in March.Implementing the UCC was one of the poll promises of the BJP in the state.Last month, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that the state government is also thinking seriously in the direction of the implementation of the UCC in the state, and favoured its expeditious implementation in the country as well.With the BJP pulling out all stops to retain power in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur recently lauded the UCC as a good concept and said his government was open to implementing it.

The controversy should not have been invited by organising such a programme on the BHU campus, Maurya told reporters. No such work was ever done on the university campus established by Pt Madan Mohan Malviya, he said. Maurya, however, clarified that the matter is between the university and students. We cannot interfere from the side of the government, he added. On Wednesday, an Iftar party was organised in Banaras Hindu University, with Vice-Chancellor Sudhir Jain and other staff members attending it, leading to a protest by some students. Alleging that the Iftar party was held in the university college for the first time and questioning the need to start a new tradition, students raised slogans at the VC's residence and burnt his effigy in protest. A university spokesperson, however, had said it was not a new thing for the BHU and alleged that the protest was an attempt to disturb the peace and harmony on the campus. Maurya also expressed unhappiness over the Chandauli incident, in which a young woman died under suspicious circumstances during a police raid. Her family members have alleged that she was raped, a charge yet to be confirmed by police. Maurya said the inspector of the police station concerned has been suspended with immediate effect. Action will be taken on the investigation report, Maurya said as he claimed that the law and order situation is fine in the state. On inflation, Maurya said efforts are being made to control it.

Sarma here on Sunday also met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who recently said his BJP government would prepare the draft of a UCC to be implemented in the northern state. The Assam chief minister said all Muslims whom he has met wanted the UCC. No Muslim woman wants her husband to have three wives. No one wants this. You can ask any Muslim woman. No one would tell you that her husband should marry three women. Who wants this, he told reporters here on Saturday. Sarma said Muslim man marrying more than one woman was not his problem but of the Muslim mothers and sisters. He said if Muslim women and mothers have to be given honour in the society, after the Triple Talaq (law), the UCC has to be put in place. I am a Hindu and I have the UCC. For my sister and daughter, I have the UCC. If I have UCC for my daughter, then Muslim daughters must have that protection, he said. After taking the charge as Uttarakhand chief minister for the second time, Dhami said on March 24 that his government will prepare the draft of a UCC to be implemented in the state. The (state) cabinet has unanimously approved the proposal. We also expect other states to follow us, he had said. During a meeting with ministers recently, Adityanath had directed them to spend time in the districts assigned to them to collect feedback on the functioning of the government at the local level. Lucknow , Apr 27 (PTI) To acquaint people, especially the Muslims, with the merits of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the Uttar Pradesh government will organise Qaumi Chaupals all over the state, Minister of State for Minority Welfare and Waqf, Danish Azad Ansari, said on Wednesday. With discussions on the UCC taking centrestage, he said the BJP government in the state will move towards implementing one law for all, only after talking to all the parties. As the society is progressing, some new requirements arise and they should be addressed. Every decision of ours will be for the benefit of the public only and their opinion is most important to us, Ansari, the lone Muslim minister in the Yogi Adityanath government, told PTI in an interview. We will go to the grassroots and tell the people, especially the Muslim society, about the merits of the Uniform Civil Code. We will keep the government's intention before them by organising 'Quami Chaupals' all over the state, he added. The issue gains prominence as the newly-formed BJP government in Uttarakhand recently constituted a committee to prepare a draft of the UCC. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya had recently said the state government is seriously considering the implementation of the UCC. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the leading body of Muslims in the country, has already rejected the idea. The board's General Secretary Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani had in a statement on Tuesday said talks about UCC by the governments of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and the Centre were nothing more than a mere rhetoric. The statement also dubbed the UCC anti-minorities and anti-constitutional. This is absolutely unacceptable to the Muslims. The board strongly condemns this and appeals to the government to refrain from such acts, it said. The UCC has been in discussion for sometime and is also a major issue for the BJP. During a party meeting in Bhopal on April 23, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said issues such as the Citizenship Amendment Act, Ram temple, Article 370 and triple talaq had already been decided and it was the turn of the UCC, which he added, will be resolved in the next few years. The 33-year-old Ansari,who had his moorings in the ABVP during his Lucknow University days, said people's faith, especially those of the minorities, in the BJP has increased. The minorities have realised that the BJP is working for all the welfare of all sections of the society with full honesty and readiness without any discrimination, he said. He alleged that the Muslims in the country were left behind because of the selfish attitude of the previous governments. The so-called secular parties treated Muslims as mere vote banks and left them on their own after winning the elections. Gradually, the Muslim society understood the truth of those parties and started denying them, he said. This is the reason why the BJP is winning even in Muslim-dominated areas, he added. Though there is no Muslim legislator among the 273 MLAs of the BJP and its allies in the state, the saffron party had got the support of eight per cent voters of the minority community in the recently concluded Assembly polls. Ansari himself is not a member of either the Assembly or the Legislative Council at present. His party needs to make him a legislator within the stipulated six months to keep him in the cabinet. Deoband, the home to Darul Ulum Deoband -- one one of India's most influential Islamic seminaries -- had elected a BJP candidate in the recent Assembly elections. Located in Saharanpur district, the constituency has 40 per cent Muslim voters. The BJP's then sitting MLA Brijesh Singh had defeated his Samajwadi Party rival Kartikeya Rana by 7,104 votes.

Maurya made the revelation while favouring the expeditious implementation of the UCC both in the country and the state. Terming the constitutionally-envisaged measure an important step for the realisation of the governance 'mantra' of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas (inclusive growth), he said it should be welcomed by everybody. One law for all in one country is the need of the hour. It is required that we should get out of the system of one law for one person and another for others. We are in favour of a common civil code, Maurya said while talking to newspersons here. The Uttar Pradesh government is thinking in this direction seriously,” the deputy CM said. Just as the Uttarakhand government has initiated steps, in UP and other states too where there is the BJP government, the “common civil code” should be implemented, he said. Even in other states where there is no BJP government, its implementation is necessary for inclusive growth, he said, adding the “common civil code is such a thing which should not only be demanded but also welcomed by all”. Soon after the formation of the Uttarakhand government after the recent assembly elections, the first Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami there decided to form a committee of experts on the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code in the state. After his first cabinet meeting, Dhami had said that Uttarakhand will be the first state to implement UCC, however, quickly adding that “perhaps it is already in force in Goa”. Common civil code is definitely required at this point of time, it is very much required for the country, for Uttar Pradesh and for the people of the country, the deputy CM said. “But when there are vote bank considerations everywhere, it definitely shows the politics of appeasement. But we are not in favour of this,” Maurya said. During the election campaign in the recently held UP polls, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also spoken in favour of one law for the entire country and had said the matter would be taken up at the right time. The issue of the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, however, does not enjoy the Opposition support besides that of Muslim bodies. Senior socialist leader Shivpal Singh Yadav, however, has called for a Uniform Civil Code, in remarks that are being seen as another indication of his growing closeness with the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

Ayodhya/Varanasi, Apr 15 (PTI) Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and his wife Usha Naidu visited the temple cities of Ayodhya and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.The vice president offered prayers at the Ram Janmabhoomi site amid the chanting of hymns by priests.Naidu and his wife reached Ayodhya from Lucknow on a special train. They were received at the Ayodhya railway station by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Faizabad MP Lallu Singh and other public representatives.In a tweet, the Vice President's Secretariat said, The Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu and his spouse Smt Usha Naidu at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple site in Ayodhya today. They were accompanied by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh Smt Anandiben Patel and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya. Naidu and his wife went straight to the Ram Janmabhoomi site from the railway station and were welcomed by priests amid the chanting of Vedic hymns. The vice president was also given a detailed presentation on the construction of the Ram temple.After offering prayers to Lord Ram, Naidu also worshipped the flag installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the proposed Ram temple.In a note in the visitor's book of the Ram temple, Naidu said he felt blessed after the visit to the shrine.Lord Shri Ram and this temple, once built, will enhance India's pride, he said, adding that he considers himself lucky to be able to bow his head before Lord Ram in the sanctum sanctorum.The vice president also met some seers. He posed for pictures with the team of engineers and construction workers of the Ram temple.He also visited the famous Hanumangarhi temple and offered prayers there.Later in the evening, Naidu reached Varanasi by the special train. He was welcomed by Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak.Naidu participated in the 'Ganga aarti' with his wife at the Dashashwamedh Ghat. He is scheduled to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple on Saturday morning.The vice president is also expected to visit the Kamal Bhairav temple and the Pt Deendayal Upadhyay memorial.

He also accused SP leaders of grabbing land from the homeless The SP is a party of hooligans. People are distancing themselves from it and joining the BJP. Such people are welcome in the BJP, Maurya said while talking to reporters here. Slamming the SP for allegedly grabbing land, he said, The government is getting the grabbed land vacated and will provide houses to the poor. Our government returned (to power again) due to this. Lucknow, Apr 7 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Thursday accused the Samajwadi Party of downplaying the recent attack at a temple premises and alleged that its chief Akhilesh Yadav was practising politics of “Muslim appeasement”. Maurya's allegation against Yadav comes a day after he said that the attacker had “psychiatric problems and bipolar issues” and that the BJP was giving it “undue importance” and making a “mountain out of a molehill”. “Whether the Gorakhnath temple attacker is a terrorist or a criminal will be decided by the investigating team on the basis of investigation and facts. But the politics of Muslim appeasement has made Akhilesh Yadav’s statement a mockery of the public security. The SP will not decide who a terrorist or a criminal is,” Maurya said in a Hindi tweet. He also used hashtag “#sapa_matlab_apradh_atank_ka_sath” (SP means standing with crime and terrorism) with his tweet to corner the SP chief. Late on Sunday night, 30-year-old IIT graduate named Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi had tried to enter the Gorakhnath temple and when security personnel tried to stop him, he attacked them with a sickle, injuring two constables. The case is currently being investigated by the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police. Investigators suspect that Abbasi was self-radicalised. Gorakhnath temple premises also house the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is the head priest of the temple. He was not at the premises at the time of the attack.

Lucknow, Mar 28 (PTI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will head Home, Vigilance and Personnel among the 25 departments with him as the portfolios of the new BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh were announced on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya gets Rural Development and Food Processing, while another Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak will head Medical Education, among others. Suresh Khanna will take care of Finance and Parliamentary Affairs, Swatantra Dev Singh Jal Shakti and Baby Rani Maurya Women and Child welfare departments, the list of portfolios released here said.

Jalaun (UP), Mar 26 (PTI) Yogesh Maurya, the son of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, sustained minor injuries when the car in which he was travelling collided with a tractor in Kalpi area of Jalaun on Saturday, police said.Yogesh Maurya was on his way to offer prayers at Pitambara Peeth in Datia, Madhya Pradesh, they said.Jalaun Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar said the deputy chief minister's son, along with his three companions, was travelling in an SUV and it collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction on the highway.Maurya suffered minor injuries and was taken to the guest house of the Public Works Department, Kumar said said, adding a team of doctors was called and first aid was given to him.District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan too reached the guest house, while the damaged SUV was removed from the road with the help of a crane, police said.Meanwhile, Keshav Prasad Maurya, in a tweet in Hindi, said, With the blessings of Pitambara maa and all of you, my son Yogesh Kumar Maurya is safe. After consultations with doctors, he will again leave for the darshan of Pitambara maa.

No incumbent government has returned to power in Uttar Pradesh since the 1980s. ,As such, Adityanath’s swearing-in ceremony was grandiose with chief ministers of all BJP-ruled states in attendance. ,The newly-elected Uttar Pradesh government has also given out ministerial berths. Fifty-two MLAs were sworn-in as ministers on Friday. Of these, 18 have received cabinet berths, 14 are Members of State and 20 are junior ministers. Yogi Adityanath of the Bharatiya Janata Party took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive term. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath to Adityanath in a ceremony that was held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. It was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP national president JP Nadda. Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak also took oath as the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state. Apart from Yogi and the deputy CMs, Suresh Khanna, Surya Pratap Sahi, Swatandra Dev Singh, Baby Rani Maurya and IAS-turned politician A K Sharma also were administered oath as cabinet ministers. BJP ally Ashish Patel of Apna Dal (Sonelal) and NISHAD party chief Sanjay Nishad also took oath as cabinet ministers. Danish Azad Ansari, who is the lone Muslim face in the Adityanath government, was made a minister of state. ,2022 was Yogi Adityanath's first Assembly election. He proved to be a star campaigner for the party, holding 131 rallies and roadshows in the state. This seemed to have worked in the party's favour as the BJP-led alliance had won 273 of 403 seats. Lucknow, Mar 15 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday made 'The Kashmir Files' movie tax-free in the state.#TheKashmirFiles film has been made tax-free in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in a tweet in Hindi.Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Zee Studios, the film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s.It stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi among others.Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who watched the film in Lucknow, in a tweet in Hindi said, The film #The KashmirFiles is based on the pain and injury of Kashmiri Hindus. It is a film based on true incidents. After seeing the movie yesterday (Monday), I can say that this film needs to be seen by more and more people. In another tweet, Maurya hailed the decision of the state government to make the film tax-free.
