Lockie Ferguson’s antics with the ball in the
Super Over single-handedly delivered the match for Kolkata Knights Riders, as
the Kolkata franchise triumphed over David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first match of the doubleheader Sunday in the Indian Premier League.

Ferguson, who played his first match of the year for the Kolkata side on Sunday, delivered a match-winning
performance. His heroics enabled Kolkata to take the match into the super over.

The Kiwi pacer said that taking Warner’s wicket in the super over riled him up.

Talking about the victory in
the most match ceremony, Ferguson added, “It’s great having Morgs (Eoin Morgan) at the top off
the mark with his calmness and of course I had my plan which was working
throughout the game. Look we’ll take this win and enjoy tonight, it was a very
good win on a tough wicket. It was nice to put the icing on the cake after the
batsmen’s effort.”

Introduced in the seventh over of SRH’s innings, Ferguson
provided a decisive breakthrough for the Kolkata side who yet again failed to
take a wicket during the power play. Ferguson handed the crucial wicket of
fellow countryman Kane Williamson who was looking in formidable form for
Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Having added 57 runs for the opening stand, Williamson
perished to Ferguson’s first delivery of the spell. Having removed Williamson, Ferguson followed it up with another wicket, removing Priyam
Garg in the ninth over.

Ferguson restricted Hyderabad’s flow of runs as their
run-chase faltered in the middle over. Ferguson struck yet again in his third
spelling to remove former KKR player Manish Pandey, castling him for six.

Ferguson’s gallant effort allowed Kolkata
remain in the match despite David Warner’s patient and dogged innings of 47.
Needing 18 of the last over to win, Andre Russell conceded 17 to tie scores and
forcing a Super Over.

Ferguson’s efforts with the ball ensured
Captain Morgan to entrust him to bowl the Super Over for KKR. And boy, Ferguson did deliver. He removed Warner who had
been in the marauding form in his first delivery. With Abdul Samad walking in to bat
at number three, Ferguson conceded just two runs before he castled Samad of the
third ball of the over.

KKR bagged the match in the Super Over and the Kiwi was adjudged Man
of the Match for his five-wicket haul in the match.
