Legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, the popularly known as the ‘Nightingale of India’, died on Sunday. She was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where she was receiving treatment for COVID-19 and pneumonia. 

Lata Mangeshkar family:

The legendary singer was the eldest daughter of Deenanath Mangeshkar, a Marathi and Konkani musician and his wife Shevanti in Indore. All her siblings, Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridaynath are also accomplished singers and musicians. The singer remained unmarried.

Lata Mangeshkar net worth:

The net worth of the veteran artist is estimated to be around $50 million, which is about Rs 368 crores. She lived in the Prabhu Kunj building at Peddar road, a plush area of South Mumbai. She was also a huge car enthusiast and owned a Chevrolet, Buick and a Chrysler. There have been reports that the famous filmmaker Yash Chopra gifted her a Mercedes car during the song release of Veer Zara.

Lata Mangeshkar awards: 

The singer has been honoured with prestigious awards like Padma Vibhushan, Bharat Ratna and Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was awarded the title of Officer of the French Legion of honour in 2009 and was also ranked number 10 in Outlook India’s poll of the Greatest Indian.

The singer has had a successful career spanning for around seven decades and was also listed in The Guinness Book of Records as the most recorded artist in history. She had reportedly recorded more than 25000 songs, solo, duet and chorus in around 20 Indian languages.

The singer’s contribution to the field of music has been immeasurable. She has witnessed the transitions the Indian cinema has gone through in the last seven decades. In memory of the Nightingale of India, a two day national mourning will be observed and the national flag will fly at half -mast for the two days as a mark of respect to her.
