Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s spokesperson told CNN in an email on Saturday that the conservative leader has scrapped the launch of the “America First” caucus amid criticism from GOP party members.

Her spokesperson, Nick Dyer said Greene is not “launching anything.”

She had already confirmed the caucus launch a day before. “Be on the look out for the release of the America First Caucus platform when it’s announced to the public very soon,” Dyer had said Friday.

The email said, “The Congresswoman wants to make clear that she is not launching anything. This was an early planning proposal and nothing was agreed to or approved.”

While talking about the flier promoting the caucus, Dyer said, “she didn’t approve that language and has no plans to launch anything.” The flier obtained by Punchbowl News had problematic rhetorics.

A draft of the flier, which Dyer complained had been leaked talked about a string of conspiracy theories regarding election integrity in addition to a “common respect for uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions.”

It also said that “mass immigration” poses a threat to “the long-term existential future of America as a unique country with a unique culture and a unique identity,” reported CNN.

A congressional caucus is a voluntary group comprising of lawmakers aiming to promote some of their political agendas. These groups operate independent of the formal congressional legislative structure.

Several Republican leaders criticised the flier and Greene’s caucus launch following which she retracted her statement and denied associations with the launch.

Kevin McCarthy in a tweet indirectly criticizing the caucus said, “The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln & the party of more opportunity for all Americans—not nativist dog whistles.”

GOP conference chair tweeted, “Racism, nativism, and anti-Semitism are evil. History teaches we all have an obligation to confront & reject such malicious hate.”

GOP leader Adam Kinzinger said he believes anyone who would join the new caucus “should have their committees stripped.”

On Saturday, Greene took to Twitter and claimed that the draft of the “America First” caucus was “from an outside group that I hadn’t read.” She also said that she plans to further former President Donald Trump’s America First agenda.

She further accused the media of building “false narratives” and try to “divide the American people with hate through identity politics.”
