Megan Rapinoe, a soccer legend in the United States, has announced that she will retire at the end of the 2023 NWSL season.

“I’ve been able to have such an incredible career, and this game has brought me all over the world and allowed me to meet so many amazing people. I feel incredibly grateful to have played as long as I have, to be as successful as we’ve been, and to have been a part of a generation of players who undoubtedly left the game better than they found it. To be able to play one last World Cup and one last NWSL season and go out on my own terms is incredibly special,” the 38-year-old said.

The news of her retirement has brought her family life into the spotlight.

Here’s all you need to know about Megan Rapinoe’s siblings-

Megan Rapinoe has a large family. Jim and Denise Rapinoe, the USWNT star’s parents, had three children in total. Brain was the first child, followed by the twin sisters, Megan and Rachael. Rapinoe also has a brother and sister from their mother’s previous marriage, Michael and Jenny.

Rachael Rapinoe

Megan Rapinoe and her identical twin sister Rachael Rapinoe were born in 1985. From the start, the identical twins had a very close and heartwarming bond with each other as per reports.

Rachael Rapinoe was a soccer player until 2012. Rachael had to retire from the sport after tearing her knee ligament again. But the twin sisters’ journey together did not end there.

Megan Rapinoe and Rachael Rapinoe have been friends since they were children. They first came to the attention of the soccer world while playing for the University of Portland. It’s safe to say that the identical twins were exceptional athletes. While Megan Rapinoe went on to become a pioneer of women’s soccer, her sister Rachael also represented the United States at the U23 level.

Rachael had to end her playing career after signing a professional contract with Stjarnan Women in Iceland due to a serious injury in 2012. The USWNT star’s sister had torn another knee ligament, and this time it was irreparable.

Rapinoe SC is a joint venture founded by Megan and Rachael Rapinoe. Rachael used to host clinics for kids who were interested in soccer. They did, however, close that business venture in 2020. Rachael co-founded Mendi, a company that offers a variety of CBD products, particularly for athletes. Mendi’s salve stick, vegan soft gel capsules, and vegan gummies make it easier for athletes to deal with pain.

Mendi’s goal, according to Megan, was to find a more natural way for athletes to manage their pain. The identical twin sisters used the company to raise awareness and fight for CBD legalization everywhere they could.

Brian Rapinoe

Megan Rapinoe’s first soccer inspiration was Brian Rapinoe. The identical twins began playing soccer after observing their elder brother Brian. However, his career was cut short due to a serious drug addiction. Brian was arrested for the first time when he was 18 years old. Cops apprehended the USWNT star’s brother while he was stealing a car.

Since that time, Brian’s and the Rapinoe sisters’ lives have never been the same. Brian spent the following decades in and out of prison as a result of his drug addiction and crimes. Brian’s drug addiction struggle began when he was 15 and Megan has been open about it.
