Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is set to rejoin his team for the opening day-night Test against India this week, AFP reported. Last Sunday, the fast bowler was ruled out of the squad over an unspecified family illness.

“We feel for Mitch at this difficult time and we’re happy he has taken time out to spend with his family,” said coach Justin Langer, AFP reported.

“We look forward to welcoming him back into the squad on Monday,” he added.

Starc, the most prolific wicket-taker in the short history of pink-ball Test cricket, missed the final two games of the Twenty20 series against India.

He’ll rejoin the team in Adelaide on Monday, giving him just two full days to prepare.

Meanwhile, India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma will also join his contingent in Australia for the Test series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement on Saturday.

The first Test will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 17 to 21.
