The holy festival of Navratri will be observed from October 17 to October 25 this year. The nine-day long auspicious occasion celebrates the defeat of demon Mahishasura by Goddess Durga and signifies the victory of good over evil. This year’s Navratri is special as it will commence exactly a month after Pitra Paksha.

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, will be celebrated on October 25/26 this year. Also, the 5-day massive celebration of Durga Puja or Durgotsav, which is a major festival of Bengalis around the globe, will be held from October 22 to October 26. 

According to the Hindu Panchang, this year Navratri will begin on the Pratipada date of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month, which is on October 17. The Ghatasthapana will be observed on Day 1 of the Navratri puja.

As per this year’s Drikpanchang, Ghatasthapana Muhurat will begin at 6.23 am and will end at 10.12 am on October 17, 2020. The Ghatasthapana Abhijit Muhurat will be observed from 11.43 am to 12.29 pm.

However, the prohibited Chitra Nakshatra will begin at 2.58 pm on October 16, 2020, and will end at 11.52 am on October 17, 2020.

Ashtami Tithi will begin at 6.57 am on October 23, 2020, and will end at 6.58 am on October 24, 2020. Sandhi Puja Muhurat is from 6.34 am to 7.22 am on this day.
