The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) filed a police complaint in Mumbai’s Borivali against Maharashtra cabinet minister Abdul Sattar after he allegedly abused NCP MP Supriya Sule in a live TV broadcast. In the complaint, NCP said that Sattar’s words insult the ‘entire women community of the country’.
Sattar was speaking on Lokshahi, a Marathi news channel, about an ongoing corruption debate in the state, when he lost his cool and hit out at Supriya Sule with derogatory words. Following his remarks, impromptu protests broke out in many places, including Mumbai, Thane, Aurangabad and Pune.

Several NCP activists, led by MLA Vidya Chauhan, staged a protest outside the minister’s home in Mumbai. They gathered around the bungalow, shouted slogans, and pelted stones.
“We say that today, i.e. 7/11/2022, on Lokshahi Marathi news channel, cabinet minister Abdul Sattar abused and used unparliamentary language against MP Supriya Sule when reporters of Lokshahi asked him about the ’50 khokey (Rs 50 crore allegation)’,” the NCP complaint said.
“He got annoyed and replied in filthy language and insulted the entire women community of the country. In the aforesaid circumstances, we, therefore, pray your goodself to take serious view/cognizance in the matter in accordance with law and oblige.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taken cognisance of the matter and issued an apology via a spokesperson. However, the NCP has been demanding that CM Shinde and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis drop Sattar from the Maharashtra cabinet.
Deepak Kesrkar of the of Shinde’s Balasahebchi Shiv Sena, spoke to the media about the incident saying: “As a spokesperson, I have apologised on behalf of Abdul Sattar. We respect Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule, but there is no question of giving resignation.”
Sattar is the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. He is a three-time MLA from Maharastra’s Sillod constituency.
