New York City has been affected by the Canadian wildfires. The air quality in NYC was the worst in the world as of 3 PM ET, according to IQAir.com.

The clouds of smoke has also affected flights, causing delays, cancelations and diversions. All departures from the LaGuardia Airport in New York City were grounded “due to low visibility” until 2 p.m. ET, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Newark Liberty International Airport tweeted that “current smoke condition may impact your travel, please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight.”

A total of 1,147 flights were delayed and 73 canceled, according to FlightAware.com. The website added that the total number of delays today at John F Kennedy International Airport were 123. Eight flights were canceled. Here is a complete list.

Meanwhile, the US National Weather Service on Wednesday issued air quality alerts for a major part of the Atlantic seaboard. People with health issues have been asked to not step outside.

“It’s critical that Americans experiencing dangerous air pollution, especially those with health conditions, listen to local authorities to protect themselves and their families,” President Joe Biden said on Twitter.

Zoos, Broadway shows and sports events were canceled and/or postponed in New York City. Airports reported delays and cancelations in both domestic and international flights.

“We have been monitoring the rising air quality index & will close the WCS parks: Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and NY Aquarium, at 3 pm today out of concern for our staff, visitors and animals. Thank you for understanding,” the Bronx Zoo announced on Twitter.
