Brazil have almost decimated South Korea’s chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament, thanks to goals by Vinicius Jr., Neymar, Richarlison, and Lucas Paqueta. By scoring his first goal in the ongoing tournament, Neymar has now registered himself as the third Brazilian after Pele and Ronaldo to find the back of the net in three different World Cup tournaments.

However, Neymar has not managed to win a single World Cup yet, unlike Pele’s three (1958, 1962, and 1970) and Ronaldo’s two (1994 and 2002) triumphs.

With his goal in the match, Neymar is now close to overcoming Pele as the highest scorer in a Seleção shirt. While Pele has scored 77 goals for Brazil, Neymar has now netted in 76.

By scoring four goals in the first half itself, Brazil have now levelled with Germany by becoming the second team to achieve this feat in the first half of a FIFA World Cup knockout game. Germany achieved the feat in 2014, when they defeated Brazil by a humiliating scoreline of 7-1 in the semi-finals.

Brazil have all but qualified for the quartefinals of the ongoing tournament, where they will face Croatia, the runners-up of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The winner of the match between Brazil and Croatia will go on to the semi-finals to face the winner of the fixture between Argentina and the Netherlands.

Neymar has already mentioned that the ongoing World Cup tournament will be his last one, which will make it difficult for him to match the goal tally of either Pele or Ronaldo. The 30-year-old forward has now scored seven goals in his 12 appearances in the tournament, which is behind Ronaldo’s 15 and Pele’s 12.
