An alleged gunshot hoax in Ontario, California, is being looked at by authorities after Monday’s significant police presence at the Ontario Mills mall.

“Officers on scene determined that a group of people ran through the mall, which caused alarm,” police stated in a tweet.

At that point, several people dialed 911. “claiming a person had a gun and gun shots were heard,” the authorities claimed.

Police reported there were no gunshots.

The police tweet read, “Ontario Police are on scene at the Mills Mall following reports of a disturbance. Officers are working to identify if there was a crime and who may have been involved. Please avoid the area. Updates to follow.”

“Officers on scene determined that a group of people ran through the mall, which caused alarm. Ontario Dispatch then received multiple calls claiming a person had a gun and gun shots were heard. It has been determined that there was no gun or shots fired. We will continue to investigate the false claims and hold those persons accountable. The Ontario Mills Mall is safe and has resumed business as normal,” it added.

The law enforcement said, “We will continue to investigate the false claims and hold those persons accountable.”

The inquiry is still ongoing.

Ontario Mills is a popular shopping outlet mall in San Bernardino County, located roughly 43 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Since then, the mall has resumed its regular business hours.

On May 26 at around 4:40 p.m., Coaldale RCMP was alerted to a complaint of a man shooting at a home in the town. According to the police, the individual was reportedly on his way to Lethbridge, Alberta, when he fled the region.
