A 14-year-old boy died on Thursday after falling 400 feet from a ride at an amusement park in Orlando, authorities confirmed.

Police and emergency crews arrived at Icon Park late Thursday after receiving information that a boy had suffered injuries after falling from the Free Fall ride, a 430-feet drop tower. The boy, whose identity was not revealed, was rushed to a local hospital where succumbed to injuries. 

Speaking to told CNN affiliate Spectrum News 13, an official with the company that operates the ride said the teen was secured in the ride’s seat when the incident took place. 

“Yes (he was secured in the seat). That’s what we know at this time. So again, we operate the ride with all the safety precautions in mind and everything is in place and this is why we’re doing an investigation,” John Stine told the outlet.

Meanwhile, a video doing the rounds on social media showed the ride beginning its trek up the tower before someone is seen falling from it.

The Free Fall ride and an adjacent ride, the Sling Shot, have been closed indefinitely, Stine said. 

“We are cooperating with all other investigations at this time to get to the bottom of what happened,” Stine said, adding that there had been no issues reported previously with the Free Fall ride, which opened over the holidays.

The ride stands 430-feet (131-meters) tall, and is billed as the world’s tallest free-standing drop tower, according to the park’s website.

“Once the ride vehicle reaches the top, it’ll tilt forward 30 degrees and face the ground before free falling nearly 400 feet at speeds reaching over 75 mph,” ICON Park’s official website states.
