Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang along with his Gabon teammates were on Sunday forced to sleep on the Banjul airport floor ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia, reported Reuters.

Aubameyang took to social media to share his plight following his arrival at Banjul airport on Sunday, ahead of Monday’s Group D clash in the Gambian capital.

The Gabon delegation was asked not to leave the airport premises due to an administrative issue. They then spent the whole night sleeping on the floor and were allowed to leave in the morning following government intervention.

Aubameyang tweeted, “Nice job CAF, it’s as if we were back in the 1990s.” Reason for stopping the team from leaving the airport upon their arrival has still not been revealed while Gabon’s federation posted pictures of the incident on its Facebook page without any comments.

Aubameyang later said, “This will not demotivate us but people need to know and CAF need to take responsibility. [It is] 2020 and we want Africa to grow but this is not how we will get there.”

Gabon are currently on top of the group standings, three points ahead of Gambia, who are seeking to reach the Nations Cup finals for the first time.
