The 63rd
Grammy Awards is finally here. This year’s much delayed event will have social
distancing protocols in place and will be hosted by talk show host Trevor Noah
with artists such as Cardi B, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Doja Cat and Post Malone, among
others, set to perform outdoors at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

British
singer-songwriter Harry Styles is set to open the performances with the event scheduled
to air live at 8 pm (ET). Beyonce leads the nominations list with nine, while Dua
Lipa, Roddy Rich and Taylor Swift have six nominations each.

Here are
our predictions for the award winners in the six major categories:

1. Record of the year:

‘Black
Parade’ – Beyonce

‘Colors’ –
Black Pumas

‘Rockstar’ –
DaBaby feat Roddy Rich

‘Say So’ –
Doja Cat

‘Everything
I Wanted’ – Billie Eilish

‘Don’t
Start Now’ – Dua Lipa

‘Circles’ –
Post Malone

‘Savage’ –
Megan Thee Stallion feat Beyonce

The Weekend’s
Blinding Lights would’ve been a hot favourite to win this award, having become
the first song on the Billboard chart history to spend an entire year in the
Top 10 list. Unfortunately, it was not nominated.

Among the
nominees, Post Malone’s ‘Circles’, also nominated for Song of the Year, seems
to have the strongest appeal across voter demographics and should edge out the
other tracks for this award.

Prediction:
‘Circles’ – Post Malone

2. Song of the Year

‘Black Parade’
– Beyonce

‘Circles’ –
Post Malone

‘Everything
I Wanted’ – Billie Eilish

‘Don’t
Start Now’ – Dua Lipa

‘I Can’t
Breathe’ – H.E.R.

‘The Box’ –
Roddy Rich

‘If the
World Was Ending’ – Saxe feat Michaels

‘Cardigan’ –
Taylor Swift

Four of the
eight songs in this category also feature in Record of the Year, so it is really
unlikely any of the other four might clinch the award. ‘I Can’t Breathe’ may be
a surprise winner, but our money will be on a second major award for Post Malone.

Prediction:
‘Circles’ – Post Malone

3. Best New Artist

Ingrid
Andress

Kaytranada

Chika

Phoebe
Bridgers

Doja Cat

D Smoke

Noah Cyrus

Megan Thee
Stallion

Most of
these artists don’t exactly feel new, because of a fairly large collection of
work, the Grammys have a peculiar method of determining their eligibility.
Anyways, among the nominees, Phoebe Bridgers is a safe bet for his award, with
Megan Thee Stallion another outside contender.

Prediction:
Phoebe Bridgers

4. Best Pop Solo Performance

‘Yummy’ –
Justin Bieber

‘Say So’ –
Doja Cat

‘Don’t
Start Now’ – Dua Lipa

‘Watermelon
Sugar’ – Harry Styles

‘Everything
I Wanted’ – Billie Eilish

‘Cardigan’ –
Taylor Swift

Ed Sheeran
won this award for ‘Shape of You’ in 2018 by defeating a host of talented female
artists and it seems likely that the four female artists may cancel each other
out and make Harry Styles the favourite. Dua Lipa may pull off a surprise but our
money is on Styles’ ‘Watermelon Sugar’.

Prediction:
‘Watermelon Sugar’ – Harry Styles

5. Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

‘Dynamite’ –
BTS

‘Intentions’
– Justin Bieber feat Quavo

‘Rain on Me’
– Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande

‘Exile’ –
Taylor Swift feat Bon Iver

‘Un Dia’ –
J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy

The Army
will be pinning their hopes on this category to be the Grammy breakthrough for their
beloved K-Pop group BTS. However, the Lady Gaga-Ariana Grande collaboration might
just play spoilsport with their generational mix.

Prediction:
‘Dynamite’ – BTS

6. Album of the Year

‘Chilombo’ –
Jhene Aiko

‘Everyday
Life’ – Coldplay

‘Black
Pumas (Deluxe Edition)’ – Black Pumas

‘Djesse
Vol. 3’ – Jacob Collier

‘Women in
Music Pt. III’ – Haim

‘Future
Nostalgia’ – Dua Lipa

‘Hollywood’s
Bleeding’ – Post Malone

‘Folklore’ –
Taylor Swift

This one’s
a pretty each choice. Taylor Swift has already won this award twice for lesser
albums and ‘Folklore’ has gone on the become her highest-rated album so far,
apart from being a commercial success, so she has to win right?

Prediction:
‘Folklore’ – Taylor Swift
