Jim Matthews, a radio host of WWJ  Newsradio 950 in Detroit, was murdered in his condo by a neighbour who lives across the street on Saturday, September 24. 

His girlfriend, Nichole Guertin, who lived with him, was stabbed multiple times and is critically injured. It was reported that following the attack, the accused allegedly tried to kill himself.

According to reports by local media, the 53-year-old accused was known to the family and was a frequent visitor at their condo. Neighbours have also seen the man with Matthews’s girlfriend before. The incident took place at midday after Matthews reportedly invited the accused over to the condo.

While the 57-year-old radio host was killed, his girlfriend and their 5-year-old daughter Chloe managed to escape the condo. She stopped a car passing by and informed the driver about the incident. 

The driver then reported the incident on 911, after which the Chesterfield Township police arrived at the spot. They found the couple’s 10-year-old son locked in a closet with serious injuries. 

When they reached the basement, they saw that the 53-year-old suspect was overdosing on cocaine, and upon seeing the officers, tried to kill himself. He has been hospitalised after police rescued him from the scene.

Following the radio hosts’ death, WWJ  Newsradio 950 issued a statement saying, “There have been many tears shed in our newsroom today and Jim will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

While the police have confirmed that Matthews died of the injuries, his girlfriend and son are critically injured and are undergoing treatment at a hospital. The incident is still under investigation and the police have not yet made any statement’s on the accused motives. More details are expected to emerge later.
