Chelsea defeated Leicester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to bounce back from their 3-0 loss to Leeds. This was Chelsea’s third win in the last four games over Leicester City. The victory has now sent them to sixth place in the Premier League standings. Meanwhile, Leicester City still remain winless in four games for the first time since 2003-04 and sit at the second last spot on the table. Raheem Sterling scored his first goal for the club as the home team was reduced to 10 players after Conor Gallagher was sent off in the first half.

Earlier in the game, Thomas Tuchel made just a single change to the Chelsea defence, with Trevoh Chalobah replacing Kalidou Koulibaly. The defender was unable to play because of the red card he received in the previous game against Leeds. The first half was tightly contested, with both teams trying their best to score. Conor Gallagher got the first yellow card of the game in the 22nd minute after fouling Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Shortly before the half-hour mark, Gallagher’s was given a second yellow card for pulling down Harvey Barnes to reduce Chelsea to just 10 players for the second consecutive time. Despite this disadvantage, it was Chelsea who came closest to opening the scoring before halftime. Reece James’ attempt to head Sterling’s shot came back off the post and the first half remained goalless.

The home team did eventually score shortly after the second half started in the 47th minute when Sterling scored his first goal for his new team when a deflected shot looped over Danny Ward and into the corner. This made Sterling just the third player in Premier League history after Nicolas Anelka and Daniel Sturridge, to score for Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Sterling then quickly added a second goal in the 63rd minute after he tapped in a brilliant cross from Reece James. Harvey Barnes then tried to reduce the margin by scoring Leicester’s first goal in the 66th minute. He received a pass from Jamie Vardy just inside the box and slammed past goalie Edouard Mendy at the near post.

Ayoze Pérez then had a good chance to score an equaliser for the Foxes with just four minutes on the clock. Unfortunately, the ball shot off the crossbar sinking the Foxes’ hopes for a draw. The result leaves the Foxes in the relegation zone, while Tuchel’s side moves into the top six of the Premier League standings.
