Ramadan, which begins on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is one of the most auspicious months for Muslims.  The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic word “Ramida or Ar- Ramad” which means sun-baked ground and parched thrust. Muslims all around the world observe a fast also called Roza, read verses from the Quran and offer prayer to Allah. (Ramadan dates 2021)

Fasting during the month of Ramadan is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam. Fasting from dawn to dusk cleanses the body and mind. It is believed that the Holy Quran came to Earth from Heaven and revealed itself to Prophet Mohammad on the night of  Laylat al Qadar.

Shahi Tukda– Shahi Tukhda is one of the showstopper desserts of Ramadan. It is a bread pudding that is not extremely sweet but has a perfect balance of flavour and texture. People can enjoy this dish during sehri as well Iftaar.

Falsa Sharbat– Falsa is a sweet beverage that is prepared with mint, lemon, and sweet Rooh Afza syrup. 

Chickpea Salad- Chickpea salad is a must during Ramadan. Generally, people after a long fast prefer something light and chickpea salad with green vegetables, lemon and a pinch of salt is always the best option.

Ramadan starts with the sighting of the new moon and ends when the moon has reached its full cycle. As soon as the maghrib Aazan takes place people break their fast with water and Khajur which is most important during Ramadan. This year Ramadan will start from April 14.
