Rowan Atkinson, the face of British sitcom Mr Bean, was declared dead on social media on Tuesday. Some Twitter users said that the Brit actor died after a car accident. However, there is no official statement to support the assertion. 

Atkinson’s death became a talking point on social media after a Twitter user, under the name of US broadcaster Fox News, reported the news.

“FOX BREAKING NEWS: Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) died at 58 after car accident,” the tweet read. 

“English comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson aka Mr Bean is feared to be dead with reports of the 58-year-old actor getting killed in a car crash on March 18, 2017,” another one tweeted. 

However, upon examination, the information is recognised as fake. Rowan Atkinson was 62 years old in 2017.

Atkinson is best known for playing ‘Mr Bean’. The show completed 30 years in 2020. He was the protagonist in films like ‘Johnny English’ and ‘Black Adder’. As per reports, the actor will be seen playing the role of Adolf Hitler in British drama series ‘Peaky Blinders.’

Talking about his fondest memories from filming “Mr. Bean”, Atkinson had said, “I’m sorry to say that I find all filming stressful but ‘Mr. Bean’ especially so, because of the burden of responsibility I feel to make it funny. Of course, you have support from other excellent actors but whether the jokes work or not tends to be down to me. And that’s stressful.”

“However, I enjoy it when it’s over! I enjoy whatever success we have. If an audience finds it funny, then it’s been worth it.”

He is currently working with Olivia Colman and Sally Hawkins for the upcoming film ‘Wonka’. The film is set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on March 17, 2023.
