Flashback to 2008, when Rajasthan Royals walked into the Feroz Shah Kotla as a relatively young side with hardly any experienced players. Nobody gave the Shane Warne-led team a chance at the IPL title but the tables turned soon and the Royals stunned the popular prediction and won the final. Since then the Rajasthan Royals have maintained a policy of growing and nurturing young players.
However, the team has struggled to emulate their first season glory for 12 years now. While this time their squad looks strong on paper, the same question hangs over the franchise, “Will this be the season for Jaipur?”
The Indian Premier League is scheduled to start on September 19. The cash-rich tournament will be played in the United Arab Emirates keeping in view the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India. The first match of the tournament will be a reenactment of the 2019 IPL final with MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings going toe to toe with Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians.
With a blend of English passion in Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Jofra Archer and Australian aggression in Steven Smith and Andrew Tye, Rajasthan Royals will take to the field as one of the most balanced sides of this season. Additions of Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal, make clear the intentions of Rajasthan to repeat the 2008 haul.
