One of the greatest women’s players in the history of tennis, Serena Williams made headlines once again on Friday, September 2, when she was defeated in the third round of the US Open 2022. She was beaten by Australian star Ajla Tomljanovic 7-5, 6(4)-7(7), 6-1 at the Flushing Meadows, which resulted in her knockout from the Grand Slam event. This could also be her final match at the US Open in her career, after being knocked out of the women’s doubles on Thursday.

Serena Williams was born on September 26, 1981, in Lynwood, California, United States. This makes her 40-year-old at the time of writing this article. She is also two years younger than her older sister Venus, another tennis great.

Relationships

Serena was born to Richard Williams and Oracene Price. Her father, Richard, later acted as a coach to Serena and her sister Venus. Both of her parents, Richard and Oracene are regarded as some of the best tennis coaches of their generation.

The 40-year-old has an older sister, Venus Williams, who is also considered among the greatest tennis players of her generation. The Williams sisters have won 14 major doubles titles in their careers.

She married Alexis Ohanian, the founder of online platform Reddit, on November 16, 2017. The couple also has a daughter named Olympia, who is 5 years old.
