Pakistan batter Shan Masood was hospitalised on Friday after being hit by Mohammad Nawaz’s shot in the nets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The 33-year-old was struck on the right side of his head. 

Videos posted on social media showed Masood, surrounded by support staff, lying on the ground. Mohammad Nawaz at the batter’s end looked distraught. 

There is no further update on Masood’s status yet. However, the injury could mean him being ruled out of the tournament. Pakistan play their opener against India on Sunday, October 23.

Shan Masood has played twelve T20Is for Pakistan, scoring 220 runs at a strike rate of 125.00, including two half-centuries. 

In 25 Test matches, he has scored 1378 runs at an average of 29.32. The 33-year-old has four hundreds and six fifties in the format. He has two wickets against his name. 

He has played five ODIs for Pakistan, scoring 111 runs. His highest score is 50.

Masood’s father Mansoor Masood Khan is  one of the board of Governors at PCB. His mother is a house wife. 

Shan was born on October 14, 1989, in Kuwait. He made his Test debut against South Africa in 2013.

He is 5 feet and 10 inches tall.
