A video shared by a Twitter user depicts the devastation caused by the sinkhole in the in-ground swimming pool. According to local media, one man was injured and another went missing as a result of the incident.

According to Global News, the incident occurred in Israel on Thursday in the town of Karmi Yosef, 40 kilometres southeast of Tel Aviv.

The pool floor breaks in the opening seconds of the video and sinks inward, quickly absorbing most of the water. A man can be seen slipping toward the sinkhole, but people quickly drag him behind them.

Mobile phone footage from the scene shows floaties and water being sucked to the bottom of the pool as people sitting by the poolside yell in Hebrew. A man approaches the sinkhole, slips, and nearly falls in before backing away.

One of the men, a 34-year-old man, was able to get away, but Kimhi was later found dead. According to Newsweek, there were six people in the pool at the time, and none of them were hurt.

According to the US Geological Survey, sinkholes can form in a variety of ways, but they most commonly form when the ground beneath the land surface dissolves into groundwater and is washed away, leaving an open cavern covered only by a thin layer of Earth.

Sinkholes are common in areas with limestone, carbonate rock, or salt beds as rocks. Sinkholes can also be caused by human activity, such as groundwater pumping or construction activities that alter the natural ground structure and water drainage patterns.
