Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and actor Sunny Deol on Wednesday confirmed his positive COVID-19 test, adding that he has is currently in isolation.

He also urged all those who came in contact with him recently to get tested for infection. 

“I have tested positive for coronavirus. I appeal to the people who came in contact with me recently to isolate themselves and go for the COVID test,” Deol tweeted. 

According to PTI, Himachal Pradesh health secretary Amitabh Awasthi cited information from the district chief medical officer to confirm on Tuesday that the Gurdaspur MP and his friends were set to depart for Mumbai before his COVID-19 test result came out positive.

Deol’s spokesperson said that the actor, who is under home quarantine and is taking all necessary precautions, is recovering well.

The 64-year-old Bollywood actor had undergone a shoulder surgery at Mumbai and was recuperating at a farmhouse near Manali in Kullu district.  

“He has been tested positive but is asymptomatic and feeling absolutely alright. He is following all the instructions given by the authorities and taking necessary precautions,” the spokesperson told PTI.

Deol will next star in the sequel to the 2007 family-drama ‘Apne’, which will see three generations of Deols on screen for the first time.

The movie will star legendary actor Dharmendra, his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol and grandson Karan Deol. 

Helmed by director Anil Sharma, the film is slated to hit the theatres around Diwali 2021.
