In what seems like a routine in Rajasthan now, Governor Kalraj Mishra on Wednesday returned the state Cabinet’s proposal for calling an Assemby session, third time in a row. And almost on cue, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot landed at the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor Kalraj Mishra and discuss the issue.

“The love letter has already come. Now, I am only going to have tea with him,” Gehlot told party workers at the state Congress office before heading for the Raj Bhawan, according to PTI.

Adamant about holding an Assembly session from July 31, the state government had sent the proposal to the Governor, who had a day earlier advised the government to make certain changes to the proposal, including mention of intention to seek trust vote. The state government, however, sent the proposal without mentioning whether it will seek a trust vote in the House.

“You have sent the letter a third time. What do you want? Tell us, so that we work in that manner,” Gehlot said in his address at the Pradesh Congress Committee office, where Govind Singh Dotasara formally took over as the new chief of the state unit, reports PTI.

Mishra has already returned two earlier proposals by the Gehlot government putting three conditions — a 21-day notice for calling a session, live broadcast of the proceedings in case of a trust vote, and adequate social distancing measures in the house .

The Governor, however, clarified that a session can be called at a short notice only if the government says in its new proposal that it planned to seek a vote of confidence.

Gehlot, who claims the support of 107 MLAs in a 200-member House, is keen on holding a trust vote after a rebellion in the party resulted in 19 MLAs, including deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, being thrown out of the party. Gehlot claims he has the numbers but is unable to prove it on the floor of the House in the absence of the Governor’s permission to hold a session.
