Canadian singer The Weeknd cancelled his show at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Saturday night, a few minutes into the concert. The 32-year-old felt his voice go out and cut short the sold-out show.

“I can’t give you the concert I want to give you. I’m going to make sure everyone’s good, gets your money back, and I’ll do a show real soon for you guys, but I wanted to come out and personally apologize and not tweet it or Instagram it. I wanted you guys to know that I can’t give you what I want to give you. I apologize. I’m so sorry”, the singer said.

The Weeknd was in the middle of Can’t Feel My Face when he started losing his voice. He stopped and returned onstage to share the news with the audience.

“You know how much this kills me. I love you. Thank you so much”, he said, while the audience cheered him on.

Soon after, The Weeknd posted on Twitter “My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped”. The Grammy Award winner promised to return with a new date.

Fans were in relatively high spirits while exiting the venue. One attendee commented on Twitter, “Did not get to see The Weeknd’s arms tonight at Sofi but I still love him!”

Another quipped, “So cool that The Weeknd offered everyone at SoFi a refund or an eightball.” An eightball is slang for an eighth of an ounce of an illegal drug – usually cocaine.

The Weeknd decided to do the arena tours in 2022, taking his shows to stadiums, after delays in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic

However, his stadium tour got off to a rocky start in July. The opening show in his hometown Toronto, on July 8, had to be postponed due to a Rogers wireless network outage. The tour is expected to move through Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa & Middle East.
