Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks, perhaps best known for portraying inherently ‘nice’ characters on screen, dropped the F-bomb on camera on Thursday as he lashed out against fans for bumping into his wife Rita Wilson.

In a video of the incident posted on Twitter by The Weekly Cut, fans can be seen almost knocking over Wilson, at which point an infuriated Hanks can be seen confronting fans, raising his voice, and barking, “This is my wife. Back the f**k off!”

Some fans appeared to apologize to the 65-year-old actor, while one fan could be heard saying, “Sorry Tom about that.”

After the flare-up, the actor and his wife were escorted to their car by security, bringing an end to a tense stand-off.

As the video of the incident was circulated on social media, the internet lauded Hanks for lashing out against the overly intrusive fans.

“COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED,” wrote one user on Twitter, adding, “Y’all, if your actions are inspiring *Tom Hanks* to scream at you, you have made grave missteps in your life choices.”

“My wife gets knocked down, I am doing the same thing. There are times where its ok to snap. Defend [your] wife is one,” wrote another.

Another user expressed concern about Wilson’s safety, writing, “You could see [Tom Hanks] looked concerned when his wife stormed ahead of him. I think he was right to put the attention on himself so his wife could move safely away. You never know what people will do these days. Glad she’s ok.”

Celebrities also came out in support of Hanks, with radio personality Brian Fink tweeting, “DON’T YOU DARE MAKE TOM HANKS ANGRY! HE’S A NATIONAL TREASURE!!”

Gamer Big Cheese also voiced his support for the actor, writing, “I don’t blame Tom Hanks for defending his Wife and all in my personal space. Back TF up. Dude in the blue was a straight up grass pole.”

Hanks is a two-time Oscar winner, having won the Academy Award for Best Actor in back-to-back years for his performances in ‘Philadelphia’ (1993) and ‘Forrest Gump’ (1994).
