WhatsApp has added a new feature to make it easier for people to add contacts. The messaging app now allows users to add a contact by scanning QR code.
This feature is already available on Instagram and Snapchat. The QR code feature in the Facebook-owned platform will allow users to scan the code displayed by someone as well as display their own code. The feature is being rolled out to both the Android and iPhone devices.
Here is how you can access a QR code on WhatsApp:
- Open the WhatsApp app on your Android or iPhone device.
- Go to the settings menu.
- Tap on the QR code icon displaying beside your Profile name.
- After opening the QR window, you can select the ‘SCAN CODE’ to scan code of other users and automatically add their contact in your address book.
- The other option, ‘MY CODE’ will let you display your code to other people, helping them easily add your contact.
The QR code will also use the user’s phone number. However, the app allows the user to revoke the code an unlimited number of times in a bid to prevent it from going into the wrong hands.
The feature is available in the latest beta version of the app.
