KBC Offline Quiz (August 27, 2021): Who according to Hindu belief is the husband of Devasana?

Answer: Lord Murugan

Devasana is a Hindu goddess and the wife of the god Kartikeya, who is the son of Lord Shiva and is known by many other names, including Murugan. Also known as Devayanai, Devasana is the daughter of Indra, the king of the gods in Hindu mythology.

Indra bethrothed Devasana to Kartikeya when he became the commander-in-chief of the gods. Devasana is not independtly worshipped, but is worshipped as the consort of Kartikeya. She has a greater role at the Tirupparankunaram Murugan Temple, which is believed to be the site of her marriage.

Devasena, the celestial wife is married in a traditional arranged marriage, while the earthy Valli is won by Murugan, resulting in a love marriage.

She is generally depicted as an antithesis of Valli, her co-wife, and together they complete the god. Devasena is generally depicted with Kartikeya, often accompanied by Valli.

The Sankrit name of Devasana means “army of the gods” which is why her husband is also known as Devasenapati or Lord of Devasana.
