“Planes go up, planes go down. What planes don’t do is vanish off the face of the Earth,” says aviation journalist Jeff Wise in ‘MH370 :The Plane That Disappeared,’ a three-part Netflix documentary series that banks and swoops and rolls through all the options, concludes that none of what happened was an accident. The tragedy, which happened nine years ago this week, is still a mystery.

The 2014 disappearance is still one of aviation’s greatest anomalies. The Boeing 777 took off from Kuala Lumpur headed to Beijing March 8, 2014 and disappeared around 90 seconds after leaving Malaysian airspace with all 239 of its passengers apparently gone without a trace.

A lengthy search was then conducted, which was followed by a confusing and complicated sequence of revelations and inquiries that, as of this writing, have not led to any concrete conclusions. After three years, Malaysian officials called off the search, and subsequent search efforts have continued to be fruitless.
