Actor Sheryl Lee Ralph was praised on social media for her narration of the Damar Hamlin tribute segment at the NFL Honors 2023. The ceremony took place at the Symphony Arena in Phoenix.

Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the field during Buffalo Bills’ game vs the Cincinnati Bengals in early January, has recovered and attended the Honors on Thursday. He, the Cincinnati and Buffalo medical teams were called on the stage.

“Yo, why am I crying while watching the #NFLHonors??? That tribute to Damar and the medical staff that saved him came out of nowhere. Also, Sheryl Lee Ralph is always so great at speeches!” a Twitter user said.

“Please put Sheryl Lee Ralph in every tv show and movie. I would watch that woman read a phone book,” another one added.

An actress and singer, Lee Ralph made her screen debut in the 1977 comedy picture A Piece of the Action. She played Deena Jones in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls (1981), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Ralph was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of Jamaican fashion designer and inventor of the kariba suit Ivy Ralph O.D. and college professor Stanley Ralph. Michael Ralph, an actor and comedian, is her younger brother.

She is partially descended from the Tikar people of Cameroon, according to a DNA examination. She grew up alternating between Long Island and Mandeville, Jamaica. In Uniondale, New York, Ralph attended Uniondale High School.
