Mohemed Fofena, a 4-year-old boy, was reported missing in Castle Island, South Boston. Law enforcement officials launched a search party for him on the island and the surrounding ocean on Sunday night.

Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Boston firefighters, Boston police, Boston EMS, and the Coast Guard are involved in the search.

As per reports, Fofena was with his sister and grandfather at a park on Sunday evening when he vanished. He was seen near the water.

Police gave a detailed account of the incident. In a statement, the local department said that the four-year-old was playing at the park at around 7 PM Sunday before his family members lost sight of him. A relative made a 911 call at around 7:30 PM.

As per the child’s mother, the relative was his grandfather. She added that Mohemed Fofena has autism and does not speak.

Several local media reports say that state troopers did a sweep of the area and could not find the four-year-old. Other agencies searched by land, air and water. They were at the scene overnight and the investigation resumed Monday morning.

“Yesterday they come with grandpa for the playground. He called me, ‘I see your daughter but I’m not seeing Mohemed.’ That’s why I come here yesterday. I not see him…I need to find Mohemed because Mohemed don’t do nothing for himself, nothing,” the child’s mother, Mantenjay told WBZ-TV.

The four-year-old is wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and blue footwear.
