She lived through the 1918 Spanish Flu and now 108-year-old Sylvia Goldsholl has beaten the coronavirus as well.
When the virus has been witnessed as being deadly, especially for older people, Goldsholl, who lives in a nursing home in Allendale, New Jersey, has become one of the oldest survivors of the country.
“A tremendous life, a tremendous spirit, and a tremendous show of strength,” the governor of New Jersey, M Phil Murphy tweeted saying that she has beaten the virus.
Goldsholl, eldest of four, was born in a family of Russian immigrants on December 29, 1911 and grew up in the Bronx and moved to New Jersey 20 years ago. She was seven when the 1918 Spanish flu hit the world, killing more than 50 million people.
“I survived everything because I was determined to survive,” Goldsholl told News 12 New Jersey, reported CNN.
“I am a survivor. I’ve got to come out on the top of every list,” she said, CNN reported.
Sharing her story on Facebook, the staff of Allendale community for Senior Living described Goldsholl as a ‘model of positive perseverance.’
Talking about Goldsholl becoming the oldest person in the state to recover from COVID-19, Murphy said in an interview, “”To you Sylvia — we send you all of our best for the many, many, many, more years to come,” CNN reported.
