Firefighters in Baltimore were trapped Monday morning after a collapse during a 2-alarm fire in the 200 block of S. Stricker St.

According to a representative for the fire service, a firefighter is still trapped within the structure. The special rescue team is still on the scene, attempting to free them. Three other firefighters were rushed to the hospital, where they were in critical condition.

The third firefighter was let out of the structure. According to Baltimore IAFF Fire Department Local 734, they were sent to Shock Trauma for treatment and their status is now unknown.

Another firefighter was saved by the Rescue Team, according to Baltimore IAFF Fire Department Local 734. The firefighter was taken to a local hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Gov. Larry Hogan tweeted: “We are closely monitoring the situation, and the State Fire Marshal is assisting the Baltimore City Fire Department. Please take a moment to pray for these firefighters and their families.”

Celeste Ireland, 55, said she was awakened by bursts of light while resting in bed at her house on Monday morning. She assumed she was dreaming at first, but when her Shih Tzu barked, she awoke and walked to the window.

“When I opened the curtain — and my house is right behind it — everything was ablaze,” Ireland said.

Her house sits behind the burned-out houses, divided by an alley, she explained.

According to Ireland, the homes that were on fire seemed to be empty. She observed a family evacuated who resided close to the fire, she said.

Then she learned that firefighters were engulfed in flames.

“I’m a godly woman, and I just started praying,” she explained.
