In an apparent murder-suicide, a couple was found dead on the front lawn of their Texas home in the wee hours of Christmas Day. The responding cops then found five uninjured children inside the residence.

Police responded to the home at Daun Street on Saturday morning and found a man and a woman dead in the yard. The man has been identified as 45-year-old Arsenio Gonzalez and his wife 42-year-old Maria Gonzalez.

“The wife had signs of blunt trauma and the husband appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot,” the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in the statement.

The cops entered the home after discovering the bodies and found five uninjured children who ranged from 7 to 16 years old. 

“HCSO Homicide/Crime Scene Investigators are at the 5600 blk of Daun Street. Units discovered an apparent murder-suicide involving a husband and wife. Both are deceased at the scene. 5 children were also at the location ranging in ages 7-16. Children not injured,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a statement.

Meanwhile, speaking to TV station KHOU, Harris County Sergeant Greg Pinkins said the kids did not see or hear anything related to the alleged murder-suicide. He added that the shooting took place after the deceased returned home from a Christmas gathering. The circumstances that led to the crime were not known.

An investigation was ongoing and cops were speaking to all those present at the Christmas gathering to obtain more information.

The kids are currently with Child Protective Services who is working to place them with other family members.
