After active shooter threats across several schools in Portland, Maine, were reported on Tuesday morning, the Portland Police have come forward and said that there is no shooting. The police investigated the call reporting an active shooter at Portland High School and found that the staff had reported no shooting. The school was placed on lockdown during the investigations.
Portland Police tweeted saying that the call came in at 8:31 am local time. The first officers responding on the scene found no problems. They added that 20 police officers are currently on the scene and are conducting a search.

“Cumberland Avenue is blocked through traffic. Parents should not come directly to the school. There is a staging area at Cumberland Ave and Chestnut St,” Portland Police further said in the thread.
The FBI was also monitoring the situation and later released a statement on Twitter saying that “no information to indicate a specific and credible threat.”
“While we have no information to indicate a specific and credible threat, we will continue to work with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to gather, share, and act upon threat information as it comes to our attention,” the FBI statement said.
A representative of the Department of Public Safety, Portland, told CNBC affiliate NECN in an email stating that they are “aware of multiple active shooter threats that have been made at schools throughout the state”.
“Maine State Police have been assisting local law enforcement agencies with these initial investigations,” the statement added. “At this time these reports are believed to be a hoax. The Maine Information Analysis Center (MIAC) is heavily involved in coordinating these investigations.”

In southern Maine, Sanford High School was said to have a strong police presence. According to the Portland Press Herald, Sanford’s school administration also informed parents that they did not think the threat to be valid.
