An active shooting incident was reported at the Courtyard Marriott hotel in Poughkeepsie, New York in the United States. The hotel is being evacuated after shots were heard. Police are responding to the incident, local media reports say. One person, a man, has died in the incident. 

The Poughkeepsie Police Department received a 911 call from the Courtyard Marriott at 2641 South Road on Route 9 at around 7:30 am Sunday. The phone call reported that shots had been fired. 

The one person who died was found inside the hotel. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. The identity of the victim is yet to be revealed. Two suspects were apprehended by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

Dutchess County Emergency Response and the Red Cross are at the scene to provide assistance, local media reports say. Multiple law enforcement agencies are at the spot. Heavy traffic delays are expected along the route. 

NBC News reported that the person who died was a relative of a Marist College student. Police issued a statement saying: “During the building search, a hotel room was found to contain manuals related to the making of explosive devices, as well as materials with the potential to be used as explosives.”

The New York team of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms arrived at the hotel and are assisting local law enforcement agencies. 

Police said there was no active danger to the public after the two suspects were apprehended. Law enforcement official said people should avoid visiting the area while investigation was underway.
