Actor Matthew McConaughey won more votes than Texas Governor Greg Abbott in a ‘hypothetical election poll’ published by the University of Texas and The Dallas Morning News on Sunday. 

A new entry in the world of US politics, McConaughey was ahead of the governor of Texas by 12 points. 45% of people voted for the Hollywood actor while 33% voted for Abbott. 22% of people said they would vote for someone else, reported Newsweek.

Leading ahead of Greg Abbott by double digits in polls, Matthew is yet to formally announce his political plans. But as per the polls, he could defeat the governor in the 2022 elections if he decided to compete.

McConaughey lives in Austin and has been critical of leaders of both the Republican and Democratic party in previous interviews, He says he has moderate political views. 

It is unclear at this point, which political party Matthew would join if he does decide to undertake an active role in US politics.
