An Akron police officer was involved in a shooting this evening, which the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to look into, an NBC-affiliated WKYC reporter confirmed.

Neil Fischer, of WKYC, who reported from the scene said that a dozen police vehicles were present at the scene of the officer-involved shooting. While the Ohio BCI were investigating, they confirmed that no officers had been hurt, but didn’t release any information on the victim.

The reporter added that a large area had been blocked off by the police, making it hard to understand where exactly the shooting took place. Fischer later confirmed with Akron police that the officer-involved shooting was not fatal.

Fox8 reported that the suspect had been shot in the hand after pointing a gun at an Akron police officer. However, the suspect is expected to be okay.

Despite the lack of official information, an individual on Twitter claimed that the Akron police had shot “a kid” on “Manchester and Longview”.

Another individual complained to the authorities, first addressing the Akron police in their tweet, saying “Get your sh*t together. Stop shooting first and asking questions later.”

They also questioned the North Ohio US Attorney’s office for its inaction, saying “What the hell are we paying you for?”

The Fox8 report adds that multiple people have now been arrested in connection with the incident.

News of this shooting comes after Akron police officers shot and killed Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old black man, in June. Officers said that Walker had been pulled over for equipment violations and a little while into the chase, he fired a gun at the cops.

However, the medical examiner’s findings were that Walker had been unarmed. He had 41 bullet entry wounds and five that grazed his body. The conclusion was that Walker “had several very devastating injuries that would cause death”.

The recent shooting marks the third incident the Ohio BCI has taken over since June.
