According to reports in the US, a 37-year-old man from Alabama has been arrested and charged with threatening to kill President Joe Biden. The US Secret Service has alleged that the man, John Andrew Bazor Jr. had called the White House at 9:37 pm on July 10 when he threatened to kill the President.

“I am coming to assassinate the president; I can’t wait to see your faces when I put a bullet in him,” he said, according to the complaint filed by the Secret Service.

Bazor is being represented by Gordon Armstrong, who revealed that his detention hearing on Wednesday is likely to become a moot issue as he has prior bond violations in unrelated cases.

According to the investigating agent, Bazor was asked why he wanted to harm Biden, to which he contradicted himself by saying he did not, just before changing his statement and telling that he did.

“When asked why, Bazor said that he did not wish to harm the president, but then contradicted himself and said he did,” the agent wrote in his affidavit.

“At this point, Bazor became more agitated, pushed past the agents and headed toward the elevator,” he further added.

Informations have come up regarding Bazor’s mental health status, claiming he had previously shown signs of mental illness. According to his mother, he has exhibited signs of mental instability for a long time and she once sought to commit him to a mental health facility involuntarily.

Bazor’s mother also revealed that he had previously threatened to blow up the Ton Place Suites. The investigating agents were also told that Bazor was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia in 2017.

Prosecutors have since asked a judge for ordering a psychiatric evaluation to determine if Bazor is fit to stand trial or not.

According to the defendant’s mother and aunt, Bazor was trying to get a car in order to travel to Washington.

He has also shown hostile behavior towards Joe Biden in the past. He had posted some incriminating posts regarding Biden, which could be dated back to as long as 10 months ago.

A threat to take the US President’s life can result in a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
