Nassau Hall, in Princeton University, was constructed in 1756 in what was then the College of New Jersey, becoming the largest stone building in the American Colonies.

The name “Nassau Hall” was proposed by Province of New Jersey Governor Jonathan Belcher to honour King William III, “who was a branch of the illustrious house of Nassau.”

The Nassau Hall was damaged during the American Revolution the Princeton University campus had become a battleground. In 1783, served as the US Capitol, housing the Continental Congress from June to November of that year. The news of the peace treaty with Great Britain was also received in the Nassau Hall.
