It’s almost like the fourth of July in the United States as the US Men’s National Soccer Team clash with the Three Lions at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor, Qatar on Friday night. The two nations have a long history and every time they face off, it comes alive in various forms, much to the amusement of everyone.

The footballing rivalry between the two nation goes back a long way when the USA team in the 1950 FIFA World Cup created history by defeating England 1-0. The English were the stars of the game then, while no one knew the players from the USA and as a result, the defeat provoked shame and shock in equal proportions.

When they met next at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Friday’s Group B meeting between the two teams is no exception.

While England’s are the favourites to win the match, USMNT will put up a hard fight, for history’s sake, if not anything else.

Another fan posted a hilarious take on the history between the two nations in a series of memes that talked about everything that connects the two nations historically. Referring to the American Revolutionary War, the fan wondered if one could get a big mac without freedom. Funny enough?

The cultural differences between USA and England is a matter of huge amusement to everyone. The two countries have huge similarities but starting from the terms in the English language to the concept of football itself, the differences are apparent.

One fan on Twitter summed up the emotions ahead of the game perfectly.

However, the fact that neither USA nor England has ever won the FIFA World Cup became a matter of jibe towards both teams.

Whoever wins the match, it has undoubtedly got everyone talking on social media.
