At least one person was killed and another injured in a shooting that took in southwestern Apple Valley, Minnesota, on Sunday evening.

Cops responded to the 900 block of Oriole Drive around 6.30 om on Sunday after a 911 caller reported “multiple people with weapons shooting at each other.”

The responding officers found two people outside a home. While one of them was pronounced dead, the other was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The condition of the injured person was not known. 

“Apple Valley officers were dispatched to a weapons call in the 900 block of Oriole Drive at 6:23 this evening. Callers reported multiple people with weapons shooting at each other. Upon arrival, officers located two victims outside a residence. One victim was deceased, and one victim was transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds,” Apple Valley Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The officers spoke to witnesses, who told them that a vehicle fled the scene right after the shooting.

Police were investigating the incident and have asked people to avoid the area of the shooting. 

“Our department is in the very early stages of this investigation and will work with our law enforcement partners to provide more information as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience, please avoid the area of the shooting to allow for a diligent processing of the scene,” the police department said.

Erin Maye Quade, a State Senate Candidate running in the DFL primary for District 56, tweeted that the shooting happened on her block. 

“This evening there was a shooting on my block. One person has died, another is injured, and there are reports of bullets hitting nearby homes. I’ve lived in this community my whole life, and to see the epidemic of gun violence come so close to my home is unsettling,” she tweeted.
