Bentonville Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place on August 25 at Rose Garden Lane. A man was found with gunshot wounds and eventually succumbed to the injuries. 

Both the Bentonville Police Department (BPD) and the Bentonville Fire Department (BFD) arrived at the scene when a call went out from Rose Garden Lane stating that shots had been fired. The caller reported that an individual had shot another person. 

The cops reported that they found an injured person at the scene and arranged for them to be taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he died from his injuries. Officers were also successful in tracking down the person who they believe is responsible for the shooting. The individual was located nearby and is now in custody.

There are no further details regarding the shooting available at this time, and the police have not released any identities yet either. 

Bentonville, in Arkansas, is known as the birthplace of the retail chain-store Walmart. The state has one of the weakest gun laws in the nation and 596 people die of gun violence in Arkansas per year, on average. The state has spent years weakening its gun laws and at present certain concealed carry permits can even allow individuals to bring guns onto college campuses.

In the last decade, gun violence in the nation increased by 17% but in Arkansas, the jump was almost double – 34%, yet legislators in 2021 scrapped the concealed carry permit, the last foundational gun safety law in the state. 

Bentonville has also been ranked as safer than 30% of cities in the US, as per NeighbourhoodScout which provides “hyper-local real estate data” as per their site. The city also scores 11.5 in violent crime, against the national average of 22.7, according to BestPlaces, which gives data on cities.
