Several social media users are criticising CBS’ ’60 Minutes’ and the host Lesley Stahl. #Boycott60Minutes is trending on Twitter after the show announced that Republican Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene will appear on its latest episode.

“Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, nicknamed MTG, isn’t afraid to share her opinions, no matter how intense and in-your-face they are. She sits down with Lesley Stahl this Sunday on 60 Minutes,” a tweet from ’60 Minutes’s’ Twitter handle read.

MTG will appear on the show on Sunday, April 2.

Why do people want to boycott 60 Minutes?

Marjorie Taylor Greene has been controversial through and trough. She is one of the few politicians who have openly supported the January 6 insurrection of the US Capitol. Over the past two years, MTG has come out to be transphobic and a QAnon supporter. She has fielded several other controversies.

The Georgia politician is a staunch Donald Trump supporter. She was a strong presence at the former President’s recent Waco rally.

Trump is facing an indictment and criminal charges on his involvement in the hush-money payments to adult film stars Stormy Daniels. Greene has been supporting the 45th President, slamming Democrats in regular interviews and media interactions.

Talking about her 60 Minutes episode, MTG tweeted: “It was an honor to spend a few days with the legendary icon Leslie (sic) Stahl and talented crew @60Minutes. Leslie (sic) is a trailblazer for women in journalism. And while we may disagree on some issues, I respect her greatly. Tune in tomorrow 7 pm ET on CBS.”
