A video featuring an orange tabby cat and a goldendoodle has gone viral on Reddit for the wholesome friendship between the two. Posted on 12 June, the video has gained almost 14,000 upvotes and 11 awards. Surprise, a 14-year-old cat, and Canelle, a 10-year old goldendoodle have been friends since the day they met each other. Reddit user u/Hurtkopain, their caregiver, reveals the story of how they met while responding to a comment.

Surprise was adopted in 2006 when he was living outdoors at a gas station, and was alleged to be a warm and friendly cat. Canelle, on the other hand, was adopted in 2010 as a gift when the Reddit user’s friend had too many puppies and was looking for a home for Canelle. Owing to Surprise’s carefree nature, the two immediately bonded a day after Canelle’s adoption, and were “hanging out and playing together”.

The video, shared on the subReddit r/AnimalsBeingBros, shows Surprise and Canelle being affectionate towards each other, with Surprise thoroughly grooming Canelle’s fur. Both pets appear to be well into their golden years.

While some comments stated that their pet dog and cat shared a similar bond of friendship, others seemed to marvel at their ability to befriend each other, since their pets did not get along.

One comment seemed to express concern about Surprise’s health, and claimed that he needed to be put on a diet. The post owner clarified that while he was perfectly healthy, he needed the extra fat to protect him from cold weather. They also added that Surprise shed a lot of weight in the summer, however, was overfed all year round.
