US gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from the team at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday, citing a “medical issue”. The American star exited the game briefly and returned, only to be replaced in the concluding routines on the uneven bars, beam, and floor.

The USA gymnastics said in a statement, “Simone Biles has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue. She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”

The four-time gold medallist at the 2016 Rio Games had earlier expressed that she was feeling the pressure for Sunday’s game. She had taken to Twitter and wrote, “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times…I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard…the Olympics is no joke!”

Adding to the reactions, Retired American gymnast MyKayla Skinner said “My heart broke for her. I can’t imagine what she’s going through right now. I’m not sure if she’s hurt something recently.”
