Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea potentially have two chances to torpedo Manchester City’s bid for an unprecedented quadruple — but can end the chase as early as Saturday, when the two sides clash in an FA Cup semi-final.

In-form Chelsea will fancy their chances at Wembley in a match that could serve as a dress rehearsal for the Champions League final.

Chelsea, revitalised since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January, will pose a formidable threat to City and their dreams of winning four trophies.

The club have suffered just two defeats under the German — including the 1-0 loss to Porto in the second leg of this week’s Champions League quarter-final — and are in the battle for a top-four place as well as silverware.

The Blues’ German boss believes Chelsea still have long-term ground to make up on City but has exhorted his players to close that gap just for 90 minutes.

Former Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss Tuchel has taken on Guardiola five times and remains winless against the City manager, whom he could also face in the Champions League final.

He revealed the Catalan had had a major effect on his coaching style, conceding he was glued to the screen during Guardiola’s Barcelona tenure.

“He’s a huge influence on me because when he was coach at Barcelona I didn’t have the chance to know him personally, but I was watching almost every game,” he said.

“We have to accept that there is a gap between us and Manchester City,” said Tuchel, who replaced Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge hot seat in January,

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola said after Wednesday’s victory against Borussia Dortmund that sealed their place in the Champions League semi-finals that he and his players would drink some “good wine”.

Guardiola also backed Phil Foden to do his talking on the pitch after a contentious tweet was posted by his social media company aimed at Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.

Foden played a starring role in Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final win over Borussia Dortmund, scoring the winning goal in both legs.

But the 20-year-old was reportedly angered after the company controlling his accounts posted a tweet reading: “@Kmbappe are you ready,” looking ahead to the semi-final against PSG.

The England midfielder is currently enjoying the best spell of his career and Guardiola talked up the academy graduate at his press conference on Friday.

“It doesn’t matter what we’ve done,” said the City boss. “It’s what we have to do today. Today everybody is involved, talking and social media, but you have to talk on the grass. It’s the only way.

The Catalan manager will hope for another reason to celebrate at Wembley this weekend but will be wary after 10-man Leeds handed them a rare league defeat last week.

It will be Guardiola’s first meeting in English football with Tuchel.

Guardiola said: “He took over a team here in mid-season but has a lot of experience at top clubs like PSG and now Chelsea.

“I knew from the beginning he would do a good job. It will be a good battle in this game.”
