Chicago police reported 12 individuals shot, three fatally, in overnight shootings throughout the Chicagoland area in advance of the holiday weekend.

A 33-year-old man was found lifeless on the sidewalk near the 7800 block of South Seeley Avenue at 12:50 a.m. with a bullet wound to the left armpit, according to police. He was pronounced deceased at the spot.

Police discovered a 25-year-old male inside a car with a gunshot wound to the head near the 1400 block of West 49th Street around 1:18 a.m. He was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital.

A 34-year-old guy with a gunshot wound to the chest was reportedly discovered on the sidewalk close to the 500 block of West Surf Street. Shortly after, he was declared dead at the hospital.

Around 2:55 a.m., bullets were fired near the 2300 block of West 18th Street, where two women were standing on a sidewalk.

A 37-year-old lady was also wounded in the face while being carried to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the face and was later pronounced dead. She is reportedly in critical condition.

This comes just hours after Chicago’s North Avenue Beach officially opened for the summer on Friday, shots were fired there. Around 80 teenagers were at the beach when a fight started at 1:30 p.m., according to information from the Chicago Police Department.

A minor was eventually taken into custody, according to the police. Two guns, according to Interim CPD Superintendent Fred Waller, belonged to the second suspect who was arrested.
