CNN broke the news of their own CEO, Chris Licht’s ouster from the network citing an anonymous source and after the news had already been reported by major networks like New York Times, New York Post, CNBC and others.

CNN seems to be late to breaking one of the biggest news of the day which is about their own network. And when they did, they cited an anonymous source, as the network has not officially released any statement on the ouster yet.

“CNN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Chris Licht is out, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter. Licht, whose one-year tenure at the network has been marked by a series of controversies and missteps, departs after a devastating magazine profile that called into question his ability to lead the network’s staff,” CNN reported.

Even their notification from their mobile app was the same and provided little details about the matter.

Meanwhile, people had to rely on other sources for information regarding the ouster.

It is reported that some prominent figures in the network wanted him to step down after a scathing magazine profile alienated staffers. Warner Bros. Discovery, which is CNN’s parent company announced that Licht’s resignation will go into effect immediately.

It is also being rumored that Amy Entelis, a veteran executive at the network, will be his replacement.

His departure comes a little more than a year after he took over for Jeff Zucker, who was forced to quit after revelations of an affair with a subordinate. Licht has accused his predecessor of planting negative stories about the news operation to undermine his leadership.

“I have great respect for Chris, personally and professionally,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said in a statement. “The job of leading CNN was never going to be easy, especially at a time of huge disruption and transformation, and he has poured his heart and soul into it.”
